We'll be doing 3 things this week:
1) Students will meet in the library Monday and then come back to class to do some free reading in this month's Scope Magazine.
2) Continuing independent i-Read = passing off those completed (# 3 is due Friday)
3) Starting a new class novel = A Long Walk To Water - the real story of one of Sudan's Lost Boys, Salva Dut, and another Southern Sudan youth, Nya. Salva's story begins in 1985 and Nya's in 2008, but their stories merge as Salva goes back to his homeland to help his people. This is a great story of determination and how one person can make a difference. We do not have copies of this and will be reading it on the screen in class; however, I would encourage students to buy their own copy - it's a book worth having.
4) Due Thursday - Friday: History Fair sources should be read and and students should have identified the main idea of each source and chosen an important thought/idea to borrow, helping them prove how their topic meets this year's theme Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange in History.
